Our Child's Worry, Parents Nightmare on Juneteenth 2020

Lonnie Chavis' Letter to his Mother

"This is Us" star Lonnie Chavis wrote a letter to his mother to process his emotions after the death of George Floyd and has now shared that letter to the world. Lonnie tells us about his thoughts, feelings, and experiences as a 12-year-old experiencing racism in the United States.

My life matters, but does it? America paints a very clear picture of how I should view myself. America shows me that my Blackness is a threat, and I am treated as such. I actually didn’t learn about being Black and what that would mean for me until I was 7 years old. I thought I was a peach man, so my parents educated me on being a Black man really quick with long talks, books and movies like Amistad and Malcolm X. I was overwhelmed with confusion, fear and sadness. I had to lean on my faith in Christ for hope, protection and understanding.

Being a young Black boy in Hollywood made it even more fearful. I can recall the time when I realized there are not a lot of people that look like me on these Hollywood sets and asked my mom where all the Black people were. I also remember being invited to events but then being treated very poorly by security or entrance checkers, like I wasn’t supposed to be there, until I had a publicist to announce me. I think of going to Hollywood events with other actors and actresses where I was constantly asked if I’m the boy from Black-ish or the boy from Stranger Things. I guess we all look alike since we are all Black. Can you imagine being confused for any other Black kid just because you all share the same profession? I can.

I can recall a time on set when I started crying listening to an actor portray a racist grandmother toward my character. The director and writers told me that they didn’t need me to cry for the scene. However, it was hard for me not to cry as I witnessed what I had just learned was my reality. I wasn’t acting, I was crying for me. Can you imagine having to explain to a room full of white people why I couldn’t hold back my real tears while experiencing the pain of racism? I can.

It didn’t stop there. I was racially profiled at a restaurant in San Diego while visiting one of my young Black costars. Her Black cousins and I were accused by a young white girl working the cash register of trying to steal the few tips in her tip cup. It was a huge ordeal that almost led to police being called on us while we were with our parents — until some wonderful fan who happened to be white told them that I was a professional actor on two television series currently airing and argued that he doubted I would need to steal her few dollars. My mother never played the “he’s an actor” card. She definitely knew and argued that we were being targeted merely because we were a group of young Black children. Can you imagine someone thinking you are a thief just because of the color of your skin? I can.

At this point, I knew by experience that this nation will never take it easy on me, and that all Blackness could be perceived as a threat in America. My mother was taking me to work one morning, just blocks from the Paramount Studio lot, when she got pulled over in our new BMW. The white cop approached my mother’s window and asked her, “Whose car is this?” — not about her license and registration, or even why he pulled us over. I had been taught about how to behave if ever getting stopped by the police, but nothing prepared me for this. My mom was guilty of driving while Black. She had to go to her trunk for more paperwork, and I watched the cop hold his hand on his gun as if my mom was a threat. I was scared for her; I was scared for me. I didn’t know what to do in that backseat, but just to get on the phone with my dad. It became clear to me that the other three times we were pulled over in Hollywood/L.A. areas after that were because we were Black in a nice car. Can you imagine it being normal to start recording with your cellphone as soon as your mother is pulled over for a traffic stop? I can.

My 10th birthday fell on Thanksgiving in 2018. After coming home late with my family from my birthday party, a Long Beach police officer twisted my dad’s arm behind his back and pulled him from our doorstep with the door opened, claiming he was being detained for a traffic ticket. My mother ran to my room and told me with fear in her eyes to go into my little brother’s room and stay away from the windows. She put my new baby brother in my arms and told me that no matter what I hear from our front yard to not come to the door — no matter what. I held my baby brother and cried as I could hear my mother yelling outside of our home. I thought my parents were for sure going to die going up against the police. By the grace of God, they are both still with me, and that racially motivated harassment against my father was dismissed. Can you imagine holding on to your three little brothers while thinking that you are all going to be orphans? I can.

If you don’t understand what’s going on in the world, then understand this: This is what the world looks like for me. A 12-year-old Black boy. This is my America. Policies need to change, laws need to change, the police need to change, Hollywood needs to change, hearts need to change, America needs to change. Change has got to happen for unarmed Black citizens to not live in fear of being murdered. Can you imagine being me in 2020 and wondering what the future holds? I can’t.

"Forgive Them Father, For They Know Not What They Do"

"Forgive Them Father, For They Know Not What They Do"

Jesus was born in a manger.  He bled and suffered on the Cross for our Salvation.
Ask the Father God Almighty into your life, and he will show up.  Jesus loves you.  He created the heavens and the earth.  Remember your personal testimonies on how Jesus got you through.  They are real.

We all go through trials and tribulations.  When facing any and all difficulties, drop to your knees and ask God Almighty for guidance, understanding, peace, wisdom and love.  He will never forsake you.  He has never turned his back on any promises made to you.

Ask God to walk into your life, and He will show up.

One world is enough for all of us.

In the words of my daddy, "Turn right," "Stay straight," "Hold tight," and "Hang tough."  To me that translates well into my Sunday school lessons of "Fight the Good Fight," "Finish the race," and "Keep the Faith."  But remember that you must LTO to God The Father:  "Listen, Trust, and Obey."

"Thank you Jesus, Thank you Jesus, Thank you Jesus, Thank you Jesus!"  I love and worship you God Almighty because you have shown me who you are, "I AM THE LORD, I AM THE LORD, I AM THE LORD, I AM THE LORD!"

Amen.

Are We So Self Absorbed That We Choose To Sacrifice The Basic Life Requirements That Our Children Need: Oxygen, Water, Food?

Greta Thunberg Testifies to Congress Over Climate Crisis
by:  Guardian News

Time:  2:01:27
Please listen and understand.
One World is Enough for All of Us.
Care About the World Around You.
God has given us all that we need, and are we so thoughtless as not to be true caregivers of this world?
Remember the 40 years in the desert--Read your bible.
Know the true meaning of "In God We Trust."
Out of the mouths of babes.
As my daddy would say, "Got your ears on?"
This affects all of us.
Facts not fiction.
Listen to science.
Are things disappearing around you?  Why?
As my mother would say, "Be willing to suffer the consequences of your actions."
Be willing to put in the work.
You've got to go through it to get to it.
No oxygen, no water, no food:  Are we so caught up that we can't see?
Wake Up or It'll be too late.
Give Back.
HELP!!!
Don't be so selfish.
Take a look at the man in the mirror.
What will you do?
PLEASE!!!

A Testament to His Faith!

Isaiah 40:28-31
"Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and
young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."

Pvt. Desmond T. Doss:
United States Army, Army Medical Service, B Company, 1st Battalion, 307th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division, 1942-1946

Awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman in 1945.  Known as the conscientious objector (contributor) who voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve as a medic, Pvt. Desmond T. Doss prayed for, searched for, retrieved, and saved the lives of 75 U.S. and Japanese soldiers that were left for dead at Hacksaw Ridge in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II.  He completed this great feat single-handedly over an exhaustive 2 day period without the use of any live ammunition while in combat.  Doss vowed, through his religious convictions, to serve his country by saving lives without the use of a single weapon.  His strength, conviction, faith, and trust in God guided him to persevere through both individual and career challenges in both friendly and enemy territory while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Pvt. Doss' fellow soldiers terrorized, taunted and beat him, while the United States Army attempted a court martial against him.  One of his most infamous prayers at Hacksaw Ridge was "Lord, help me get one more."  Through his faith in God, "Preacher" returned home to the love his life Dorothy, honorably served his country, saved numerous lives, kept the Sabbath and never fired one gun.  Pvt. Desmond Doss learned that Freedom is not free, while experiencing that Faith in God is pure and true.

Flau'jae Made Her Daddy Proud

Appearing on Season 13 of "America's Got Talent," 14 year old Hip Hop Ambassador Flau'jae made her father proud, Jason "Camouflage" Johnson.  Born November 3, 2003, Flau'jae Johnson never met her father, but lives in his loving shadow to become a great rap icon.  Camouflage was trajically gunned down while he and long time girlfriend, Kia Jones anticipated their daugther's birth.  In this music clip, Flau'jae carries the torch in the delivery of "Put Your Guns Down."  At the end of her performance British television personality, judge and producer Simon Cowell got out of his chair to say, "That was incredible!"  Noting he doesn't know much about rap, Simon does recognize talent and the start of a big time career.  So does Atlanta, and Savannah, GA and the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club.

Ladies & Gentlemen, introducing Flau'jae.

Choosing a Dropshipping Source

Dropshipping is a lucrative business one can start today with little out of pocket expense, but offers great income potential, if you do the work.  It's best to have a good sourcing supplier for the products that you want to sell online.  Once your supplier has been identified, make sure that they meet your company's rules for shipping and delivery.  Also, make sure that you price your items competitively, as you do not want to lose money when completing a transaction.  Crunch your numbers and use that formula to ensure that you offer quality products at competitve pricing.  I suggest reviewing the services that a listing tool can provide as you grow your business.  Organizational tools such as Sales Management, Pricing Updates, Tracking, Returns/Exchanges and Customer Service are all managed with DSMTool as offered by Dropshipping Titans.  Check out the affiliate link here: https://www.dropshippingtitans.com/?affcode=182369_g7kuen8nDropshipping Titans guide you through setting up a successful dropshipping business from start to finish.

Lord, Hear My Prayer

I am sorry that I didn't go to church every Sunday.
I am sorry that I wasn't the apple of my parents' eyes.
I am sorry that I didn't accomplish anything in life.
I am sorry that I couldn't help.
I am sorry that I didn't make you proud.
I am sorry that I have not accomplished any goals.
I am sorry that there is no money.
I am sorry for being so tired all the time.
I am sorry for not being quite good enough.
I am sorry that my head can't wrap around what is needed to be done.
I am sorry for not being the right choice.
I am sorry that I have lost Mommy, Daddy and Portia.
I am sorry that I couldn't quite cut it.
I am sorry that I was not good enough to marry.
I am sorry that you don't think I'm worth anything.
I am sorry that I wasn't worth remembering.
I am sorry that I was worth ignoring.
I am sorry that I called too much.
I am sorry to my children.
I am sorry that you thought I was not worth knowing.
I am sorry that I look so raggedy.
I am sorry that is what you think of me.
I'm just sorry.

Kids Give Back Through Birthdays That Benefit Charities

Birthdays That Benefit Charities
What makes a child want to give birthday presents away instead of keeping them?  “Mom, I don’t really need anything.  For my party why don’t we have people bring things that we can donate to someone,” said Leilah Mizer to her mom Crystal Macfarlane.  For Leilah’s seventh birthday party, she asked guests to give to the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland.  She was familiar with RMH because one of her teachers volunteered there.

The theme of giving back through Charitable Birthday Parties seems to be catching on.  Kids want to share their birthday celebrations with others in need.  How sweet and wonderful is this?  Laura Klinger Doyle, communications manager at Ronald McDonald House, said she’s seen “a lot of success” with children asking for donations instead of gifts.  Leilah Mizer raised more than $1,000 through the online fundraising page they set up with FirstGiving.

Claire Hall and Sydney Brown insisted that friends and family give to the Animal Protective League for their birthdays.  Sharon Harvey, president and CEO of the Cleveland APL, notes that contribution-minded kids are influenced by contribution-minded parents, and sometimes kids don’t need prompting as children nine years and older can volunteer at the shelter with a parent.  Claire, who is now 11, has been donating her birthday wishes to the APL since age 4, and Sydney has donated pet toys and treats two consecutive years in a row.

Children imitate their atmosphere.  With active volunteering from parents and other role-models, kids realize that excess is not all that it’s cracked up to be.  Noting that the world and the people in it may require a helping-hand every now and again, children tap into a self-less concern for others.  Maybe they experienced a family crisis, in which the family successfully overcame and the unit became stronger.  Researchers say as kids shift from receiving to donating, they get many immaterial gifts in return.  Studies show that children who take on altruistic responsibilities exhibit higher self-esteem, gain a deeper understanding of the needs of others, and improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

All kids may not jump on board the goodwill bandwagon, but here are some suggestions for parents to consider.
·       Talk with your kids about the blessings in their lives and what’s their perception about others who are less fortunate.  Ask them what they can do to help.
·       Get kids enthusiastic about causes that reflect their interests.  Margaret Hall says this about her daughter, Claire, “She feels bad for the dogs and cats that don’t have a home.”
·       Learn more about charities in your area that hold the interests of your child and its requisites.  Many charities have specific wish lists of their needs.
·       Make it a reality for your kids.  Have them go with you when making a donation or contribution on their behalf.  Seeing is believing for the kids.  When children witness how their efforts bring happiness, comfort and peace-of-mind into somebody else’s life, they learn the importance of giving, and develop a greater appreciation for what they have and the needs of others.

Not all adults agree with birthdays that benefit others.  According to the New York Times, Judith Martin, who writes the Miss Manners syndicated column fears that kids may “grow up hating philanthropy because it’s done him out of his birthday presents.”  Or maybe, it’s best to let the kids decide how they want to celebrate their birthdays.  Wouldn’t that be the proper thing to do?

The Lie In The Tea Leaves

What Are Your Tea Leaves Saying?
I am so furious.  Being a Southern Belle, I have enjoyed fresh brewed tea all my life.  It’s considered a food staple in my house.  I have discovered that several of my favorite brands have pulled the wool over my eyes.  They’re not safe to drink.  Laden with pesticides, toxins, artificial ingredients, added flavors and GMOs are the reasons why I am so disgusted.  These brands include Lipton, Celestial Seasonings, Tazo, Trader Joe’s, Tea Forte, Twinings of London and Teavana to name a few.  Based on a recent study by Glaucus Research, 91% of Celestial Seasonings tea tested had pesticide residues exceeding U.S. limits.  To make it worse, the company’s Sleepytime Kids Goodnight Grape Herbal contained .26 ppm of propachlor, which is a known carcinogen under California’s Proposition 65.  They have the audacity to possibly harm our kids.  Is nothing or no one safe anymore?  In addition, the “Wellness” tea line contains propargite, a known carcinogen and developmental toxin.  On top of having tainted tea leaves, the tea bags aren’t safe either.  The tea bags are treated with epichlorohydrin, which is a compound used in the production of epoxy resins, and it’s used as a pesticide.  When in contact with boiling water, it hydrolyzes to 3-MCPD, which causes cancer in animals.  It has been implicated in infertility and suppressed immune function.  These major labels appear to have no interest in true quality control or making a product that really mirrors their claims of being natural or providing health benefits.  What a shame?  There is a saving grace however.  I would suggest reading the labels, research a brand that is organic and non-GMO certified, and make sure they use a safe form of packaging material or buy loose leaf tea.  Also check out ToxDr.com. Their mission is to improve the quality of people's lives by educating them about the toxins they are exposed to in daily life and the effect of these toxins on humans and the environment, and offer healthier and toxic-free solutions for every walk of life.

On The Third Day, He Rose...

Cathedral Of Prayer

And he said unto them, "These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me."
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
And he said unto them, "Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and rise from the dead the third day."
"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."
"And ye are witnesses of these things."
"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."

                                                                                                                                                                                          St. Luke 24:44-49

Oil Pulling: Hot New Craze Getting Attention Of Modern Dentistry

So you ask yourself what is oil pulling?  What does it do?  Why should I be doing it?  Well, to address these questions, oil pulling is an ancient, Ayurvedic, natural remedy of swishing oil through the mouth for oral and systemic health benefits.  Ayurvedic medicine is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine.  It is the oldest form of medicine known to man.

Oil pulling is a safe, simple, cost-effective and a gentle way to rid your mouth and body of toxins and bacteria.  It is claimed to cure nearly 30 diseases from headaches, migraines, diabetes and asthma.  Much of the bacteria that we come in contact with enters the body through the mouth.  The movement of the oil throughout the oral cavity causes a mucosal and tissue perfusion.  Vitamins and minerals from the oil are absorbed into the mucous membranes and removes toxins from the body through the mouth.  Oil pulling balances microflora to restore cells, tissues and organs so they can regenerate.  It is suggested that you do oil pulling up to 3 or 4 times a day.

Oil pulling involves putting 1 tablespoon full of organic, unrefined, cold pressed sesame, sunflower or coconut oil into your mouth.  (Do Not Swallow The Oil) Swish it around your mouth (like mouthwash) and pull it through your teeth for 20 minutes.  This step must be done first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything, and on an empty stomach.  It has been suggested to do oil pulling while in the shower, so you’re not just standing around doing nothing, swishing oil around in your mouth.  After the 20 minutes have passed, spit the oil out in the toilet or into a lined trash can.  Constantly spitting out into the sink may clog your plumbing pipes.  Rinse the mouth out with warm or salt water several times and then brush your teeth as usual.

There are some additional things of which you should be made aware.  When you start oil pulling, you may notice some oral discomfort or irritation.  If you do experience this issue, switch to another oil that is more pleasing.  It is reported that coconut oil is more detoxifying.  Be cautious and go slow when starting out.  One of the most common testimonials for oil pulling is an improvement in gums and whiter teeth.

Oil pulling was introduced to the west in 1992 by Dr. F. Karach who claimed the practice could help with heart disease, digestive problems and hormonal disorders.  In addition, Deepak Chopra endorsed the practice of oil pulling in his 2001 book “Perfect Health.”

I am beginning my oil pulling adventure today.  I can definitely use the savings on my dental bills.  What are your thoughts on oil pulling?  Are you interested in trying it?

The History Of Chocolate Milk

“It’s sweet, creamy, and cold when it hits your lips.  It soothes the palate. It coats your throat when you take that big gulp.  It’s treasured by all, young and old alike.  It’s called chocolate milk.  What a wonderful delight.”

Chocolate milk has been a lunch room staple of American school children for years.  In the New York City school system alone, more than 60 million cartons of chocolate milk are consumed each year.  Parents don’t know whether to love it or hate it.  Some think it’s better than sugary sodas and others think it fills their kids with empty calories.

Chocolate milk is said to have been discovered by Irish doctor Sir Hans Sloane. Soon after completing medical school at the University of Orange, Sloane was offered the opportunity to travel to Jamaica as the physician to the 2nd Duke of Albermarle.  After a 3 month journey to Jamaica and a 15 month stay, Sloane took great interest in studying the local fauna and flora, customs of the local inhabitants and natural phenomena such as earthquakes.

Sloane was introduced to cocoa by the locals as they drank it mixed with water.  Upon his sampling of this concoction, he noted that it made him feel somewhat nauseated.  After many experiments, it is said that Sloane finally discovered that the use of cocoa in milk made the drink more palatable.  Following the Duke of Albermarle’s death, Sloane returned to England, brining his milk and cocoa mixture back with him.  It was first made and sold by apothecaries as medicine.  Eventually, in the nineteenth century, the recipe was taken up by Cadbury who manufactured chocolate using Sloane’s recipe.

As with most things, Sloane, who is given the credit for inventing chocolate milk, probably didn’t actually create this drink.  According to historian, James Delbourgo, Jamaicans were mixing a hot beverage of cacao shavings, milk, and cinnamon as far back as 1494.  Chocolate has been known to the human race as far back as 350 B.C.  Even Europeans had exposure to chocolate as far back as 1502.  So it’s hard to believe that Sir Hans Sloane was the inventor of chocolate milk.

Further studies show that archeologists reported findings of chocolate use pre-dating the Maya.  Chocolate residue found in an early classic ancient Mayan pot in Rio Azul, northern Guatemala, suggests the Mayans were drinking chocolate around 400 A.D.   Chocolate was believed to fight fatigue, and was associated with the Mayan god of fertility.  Chocolate was a luxury item throughout pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.  The cacao bean was so lucrative that it was used in trade.

The advent of chocolate milk has a long and tumultuous history.  It is said that an Irishman that relocated to England, studied medicine in Paris, was the inventor of chocolate milk in Jamaica, but the cocoa bean’s history says otherwise.  It can be used to make hot chocolate or the childhood favorite we all know as chocolate milk.  One thing is for sure, the cocoa bean has seen the world over.

How Great Thou Art!

My favorite gospel singer is Mahalia Jackson.  Her voice can roll like thunder or lull so sweet to make a small child fall asleep.  This morning while listening to Music Choice On-Demand, she was there and her voice touched my heart.  So today I want to give testimony as to how great God is and how he has touched my heart.

On Friday, June 28, 2013, I discovered that a friend had suffered a seizure that left him in a coma for nearly two weeks.  He was hospitalized in Columbia, SC, a few hours away from his hometown of Greenville, SC.  His mother by his side on a daily basis, was informed by the doctors that he was being kept alive by machines and they saw no sign of brain activity.  Ms. Marie decided on that Friday to pull the plug on her beloved son based on the information provided to her by the doctors.

My sister called to tell me of the unfortunate news about Tony late Friday morning.  We talked for about an hour about Tony's condition.  Later on during the day, she called me back to tell me some miraculous news.  Ms. Marie pulled the plug on her son based on his condition.  And do you know that while the plug was being pulled, Tony opened his eyes and called out his mother's name.  Baffling the entire medical staff, today Tony is talking, breathing on his own and is being transferred to a hospital in Greenville to be closer to his family while he undergoes rehabilitation.

Now there is no better acknowledgment of the fact that God is the only one that can make a way out of no way.  To be considered dead at 11am, and alive and talking at 1:30pm, only God Almighty can make it happen.

Thank You Jesus!  Be Humble.  Keep The Faith.  Praise Him.  Put God First.  Obey The Father.
